State police seek info on underage drinking party

JAMAICA, Vt. — Vermont State Police are seeking information on how 55 minors from New Jersey were able to procure alcohol for a drinking party at a Jamaica, Vermont residence.

VSP made contact at approximately 12:35 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 with individuals at a residence on West Hill Road in Jamaica in regard to a separate vandalism case.

State troopers encountered 55 underage high school seniors from New Jersey who allegedly “were in possession of a vast quantity of alcohol and a civil amount of marijuana,” according to a VSP press release.

All 55 occupants of the house were issued Diversion paperwork for minors in possession of alcohol. Troopers were able to collect all of the alcohol and contraband from the residence and supervised the juveniles as they destroyed it in their presence, all according to police.

Sober parents were called to the scene to take custody of the juveniles.

Anyone with information in regard to how the underage juveniles procured the large amount of alcohol is urged to contact Trooper Jason Lengfellner at the Westminster State Police Barracks, (802) 722-4600.
