Neil Rollo Fairbanks


LUDLOW — Neil Rollo Fairbanks, 92, died on Dec. 22, 2017 at the Rutland Regional Hospital in Rutland, Vermont. Neil was born on Aug. 22, 1925 in Bridgewater, Vermont, the son of Rollo C. and Angie L. (Archer) Fairbanks.

Neil was a WWII Navy veteran and a longtime member of the American Legion. For many years he was an active member of the Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Proctorsville, Vermont, where he served as sexton. Upon his retirement from 32 years working for Jones & Lamsons, he enjoyed hours working in his woodworking shop producing many fine pieces of furniture, from cabinets, chairs, and tables to his beloved birdhouses. He also volunteered at the local senior center delivering commodities and driving seniors to appointments.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fairbanks of Wallingford, Vermont; daughter, Colleen (Nicholas) Kurylo of Millerstown, Pennsylvania; son, Francis Fairbanks (Cindy Perham) of Mt. Holly, Vermont; daughter, Linda Dunworth (Claude Melason) of Proctorsville, Vermont; and son, Paul (Sylvia) Fairbanks of Ludlow; four grandsons, two granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Preedham (1987); three brothers, Orlo, Roger, and Clyde Fairbanks; and four sisters, Minnie Worth, Ada Ranney, Della Fairbanks, and Myrtle Glidden.

A funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29 at All Saints’ Mission Church in Rutland. Calling hours were held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow in the spring.
