TORY DENIS CHESTER — Adams Funeral Homes, which has locations in Chester and Ludlow, will close both locations in late January or early February, according to a statement from the firm’s owner, Dignity Memorial.

In a statement issued by Dignity Memorial, the company cited “changing market conditions” as the reason for the impending closures. Dignity Memorial owns the businesses and the buildings in which they are located

“After careful analysis and consideration, we have made the decision to close the Adams Funeral Home firms located in Chester and Ludlow in late January or early February. These business decisions were made as a result of changing market conditions. We continue to work through the details of serving our client families with preneed arrangements at these funeral homes and will communicate those plans prior to closing,” Dignity Memorial said in the statement, sent via email on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

“It’s been an honor to be a part of these communities and we are very proud of the service our funeral homes have provided through the years,” the company added in the statement.

An employee from Adams Funeral Homes, returning a call to the Message for the Week on Wednesday, said that the firm has no statement to make at this time. She also indicated that is unclear yet what the next steps will be, and confirmed that Dignity Memorial owns the buildings that house the Adams Funeral Homes and Cremation Services at both locations, 35 Depot St. in Chester, and 12 Meadow St. in Ludlow.
