The recognition was also for the Garden Club’s “ability to work and coordinate flawlessly with so many groups and individuals involved in their projects,” according to a press release from the club.

The award was presented by Selectboard Chair Kristi C. Morris and Town Manager Tom Yennerell.

In June 2017, the Springfield Garden Club received eight awards at the FGCV state meeting held in Quechee. The Federated Garden Club of Vermont is comprised of 17 garden clubs throughout the state. Each year the 17 clubs submit recaps of the work they have completed in their communities.

Ann Miller and Deanna Dexter prepared and submitted the awards applications from Springfield. Following the program and luncheon, Garden Club President Carolyn Lane accepted eight awards for work in the following areas: Civic Beautification, Junior Conservation Award for Union Street Pollinator Garden, Program Yearbook, Meals on Wheels Floral Arrangements, Best Ongoing Project was Festival of Trees, Public Education through Club Programs, and two Golden Trowel awards for their outstanding work within the Club to Barbara Riotte and Kathleen Marshall.
