Fireworks Committee seeks help raising funds for September show

By TORY DENIS

CHESTER — With the annual Chester Fireworks display less than a month away, the town’s Fireworks Committee is hoping for the community’s help to raise at least $3,000, enough funds to cover the balance of the cost.

The Fireworks Committee sent out a letter to area residents and businesses, seeking help with the fundraising efforts.

“To make this year’s fireworks possible (we) need your help. This is truly a community effort and requires everyone’s participation,” the letter states.

The fireworks are scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 2 at McKenzie Field.

At a recent town meeting, the selectboard voted to donate $2,500 toward the fireworks. That amount will cover nearly half of the total cost of $5,500 for the fireworks show, according to Pat Budnick, who serves on the committee.

Budnick said last week she is trying to get the word out locally to help raise funds again this year.

The T-shirts for this year’s event are available now at Lisai’s Market, Chester Hardware, and will also be available for purchase on the night of the fireworks.

All proceeds from the $12 T-shirts will go to fund the fireworks. Anyone who made a donation last year will have their name included on this year’s T-shirt.

Those who would like to contribute can mail or bring their contribution, “large or small,” to TD Bank, P.O. Box 446, Chester, VT, 05143. Checks can be made payable to Chester Fireworks.

The committee is also seeking volunteers to help on Sunday, Sept. 3, beginning at 9:30 a.m., to help pick up debris in the field following the fireworks show. To help, call Budnick at Motel in the Meadow, (802) 875-2626, as soon as possible.
