Saddened and chagrined

To the Editor,

I was saddened and chagrined when I read that “Chester Chatter,” written by Ruthie Douglas, would end.

I have traveled extensively, and in many cultures, the storyteller is an exalted member of the community. They convey through stories the mores and cultural norms of the community, therefore giving its members a path to follow.

Ruthie’s column is the first I read when I receive the Message. In this age of divisiveness and unknown, stories of Vermont and Chester ground us in the past and present resolve of Vermonters.
