CHESTER — A festive parade, barbecue, and other activities brought alumni together during the weekend of June 9-11, as classmates, visitors and friends gathered to celebrate during the Green Mountain / Chester High School Alumni events.

Activities included a social evening and awards banquet on Friday night at the Chester American Legion, the annual Alumni Parade on Saturday morning, June 10, and the Annual Alumni Barbecue at the Chester American Legion Field.

GMUHS / CHS Alumni President Jon Clark said at the Saturday barbecue that this is his last year as president, and that the association is trying to get more alumni involved each year.

Several classes took part in the parade with a variety of themed floats. A panel of judges, stationed at various points throughout the parade, unanimously named the Class of 1977, with its “JAWS”-themed float, the first place winner for the 2017 parade. Second place went to the Class of 1983, and third place went to the Class of 1967.

Clark also announced the oldest alumni present at the 2017 events, Helen (Korpi) Vail, a member of the Class of 1941.

Clark also asked at the barbecue who there had traveled the farthest, and that designation went to Bob Holmberg, Class of ‘67, who traveled from Ventura, California to attend the festivities.

Following the barbecue, the association’s annual Alumni Meeting took place at the American Legion. On Sunday, June 11, golfers took part in the annual Alumni Golf Tournament.
