There were two birthday ladies there — Beverly Plumb, from Chester, and Louise Brickelmaier, from Ludlow. Patrons sang the “Birthday Song” and gave them a round of applause.

Everyone enjoyed a wonderful chicken dinner with potato, mixed vegetables and a tossed salad. Diets were forgotten as everyone enjoyed a piece of birthday cake with ice cream for dessert.

The speaker for the day was Paul Lassen, V.P. Compliance and Risk Management from the Heritage Family Credit Union speaking on fraud prevention.

After his presentation Dan Churchill read the joke for the day and Richard North had the first ticket drawn to start the birthday raffles.

The prizes this month were a Shaw’s gift card, three envelopes of meal tickets worth $20 each, a jar of homemade orange cranberry relish, a jar of homemade piccalilli, a dish of homemade fudge and several wrapped mystery gifts.

Dan Churchill gave the ticket jar one last shake and the raffle was underway. Everyone was on the edge of their chair with their tickets in hand waiting as North slowly read the last three numbers on ticket. The silence was broken by the cry of “over here, over here” and the prize was delivered to the smiling party waving the winning ticket.

After all the prizes had been awarded, the winning tickets were returned to the jar and Churchill shook the jar up again. This gives everyone a chance to win the 50/50 raffle regardless of what other prize they may have won.  A hush fell over the room as the 50/50 ticket was drawn. North read the number slowly and Arthur J. Tyrrell from Proctorsville won the $45 pot.

If you missed the birthday party this month, mark your calendar now for Thursday, Nov. 17 at 11:30 a.m. sharp. Call up your best buddy and come to the Black River Valley Senior Center, located at 10 High Street in Ludow  for one of the best parties in the area. Tell the receptionist if your birthday is in the month of November and your meal is free. Be sure to come early to get a good seat and maybe buy a winning raffle ticket.
